The story begins in 1900, when my maternal great-grandfather, who came from the Cantal region of France, decided at the age of 14 to move to the capital to become a hairdresser.
In 1927, he opened his first hairdressing salon in Paris at 9 rue Daguerre, in the 14th arrondissement. He had 14 employees at the time. He took part in numerous hairdressing competitions throughout Europe and was decorated several times by the various governments of the time.
He also devoted a large part of his career to professional training and in 1937 became director of the Saint Louis Union School at 115 rue du Faubourg Poissonnière in Paris. Under his direction, the school had almost 500 students. This training centre still exists today!
Then the tradition was passed on from generation to generation…
Her daughter (my grandmother) and her husband (my grandfather), both hairdressers, decided to move to the French Riviera, to Menton. In 1948, they opened their first hairdressing and perfume shop at 4 rue Saint Michel.
Their success led them to open a second hairdressing salon in 1962, at 34 Avenue Félix Faure.
My grandfather founded the first hairdressing school in Menton! It was then my mother’s turn to follow the same path: she became a hairdressing teacher at the school while working as a hairdresser in the family salon.
In order to win her heart, my father would eagerly follow her classes to get closer to her…
That’s how, in 1972, my parents took over the family salon on the Avenue Félix Faure in Menton. They opened their first salon, Mandarine.
In 1980, they opened their second salon in Beausoleil, Avenue de la République, called ‘Alan Coiffure’.
In 1987, the story continued in the Principality: my father opened his first salon on rue Grimaldi under the name of Jean Louis David.
Two years later, he opened another Jean Louis David Tradition salon in the brand new Galerie du Métropole.
A third Jean Louis David salon was opened when the Fontvieille shopping centre opened in 1992.
I joined the family business in 1996, learning hairdressing, management and administration. From the beginning of my career, I developed a passion for men’s haircuts and the men’s world.
In 2007, I took over the family salon in Menton and created the First Price hairdressing concept.
Two years later, I opened the second First Price salon at 211 avenue Aristide Briand in Roquebrune cap Martin.
The third First Price salon opened in Monaco in 2011, on Avenue Crovetto frères, followed three years later by a fourth salon in Beausoleil, on Avenue de la République.
At that time, the company employed 49 people.
Despite all that, I still dream of creating an authentic place dedicated to men’s hairstyling…
The Barber Club Monaco was born out of my passion for men’s hairdressing, my obsession with detail and perfection, and my love of tradition.
I’m deeply in love with the Principality: I love its history, its Princiere family, its glamour, its peaceful lifestyle and its positive energy.
Monaco seemed to me to be the ideal place for an old-fashioned barber, who combines tradition and modernity.
That’s how I came to create The Barber Club: a unique and exclusive place dedicated to Monaco’s male clientele.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to look after my customers with passion and love, giving them the best of myself time and time again.
